10 Acts to Watch……
This year’s Sziget Festival located on an island in the beautiful city of Budapest in Hungary is only a few months away and tickets are going fast, We’ve chosen some of the best acts for you to check out at the festival, some are veterans you may have already heard of before, others are new and upcoming bands you may have not but what they all have in common is that they will all put on unmissable sets you can’t miss!
We’re not sure of set times at time of printing, so a small warning in advance that some of these acts may clash.
She’s been away for quite some time but P!NK makes her big return to the stage, she’s set to headline two festivals, Sziget and the UK’s V Festival which means she must have some massive hits on the way, known for her absolutely crazy live shows it’s bound to be an amazing way to close the festival’s opening night. “Raise Your Glass” and “So What” are bound to be sending the crowd crazy, just look at a clip from one of her last festivals below;
As well as headlining this year’s Reading festival Kasabian will take the top spot at Sziget, this will be on the back of their brand new album “Crying Out Loud” which is set to be released in May, it’s a return to form for the British rock band, with hits like ‘Comeback Kid’ and ‘In Love With A Psycho’ sure to go down a treat, oh and of course they put one hell of a show on when they play live, check out a preview of what to expect below;
3. Crystal Fighters
I’ve said it many times on this site and I’ll continue to do so, Crystal Fighters are one of the best live acts you can see, full of positive vibes, tremendous amounts of energy and a load of feel good tunes to go with it, They are going to be one of the best acts you’ll see all weekend and thats a fact, their latest release was last years ‘Everything Is My Family’ which we rated incredibly highly. Just see the joy their live show brings below and get ready for some good times!
Tipped to be the next big thing in Pop, Finland’s Alma started off as a Pop Idol contestant before releasing music with a message, she look’s nothing like your typical pop star and she’s more than self aware of that fact with songs like ‘Dye My Hair’ and ‘Karma’. she’s already a big hit in her home country is just how long it’ll take the rest of Europe to catch on, make sure you see her set before she goes stratospheric.
5. The Naked And Famous
It’s quite rare to catch New Zealand band The Naked And Famous on this continent, I even had to import their latest release ‘Simple Forms’ from America, they’ve certainly taken a step back from the mainstream but their music is as good as ever, ever since bursting onto the scene with the epic ‘Young Blood’ back in 2010 (which is still as much of a tune as it was all those years ago). A break up between the two leads led to an almost entire break up of the band itself, but they’ve overcome their differences and are all the more better for it, they may no longer be a couple but they are most definitely a stronger band
Metronomy is psychedelic pop at it’s finest, their instrumental melodies are ear worms which will be stuck in your head long after their set is finished, last years Summer 08 was a brilliant album but it’s classics such as ‘The Look’ and ‘Love Letters’ which will have everyone dancing like maniacs
7. Two Door Cinema Club
It’s fair to say we were fans of Two Door Cinema Club’s latest 80’s infused release, their tunes are perfect summer anthems and are bound to go down a treat at Sziget’s sunny landscapes, their absolutely infectious live and crowds go wild, check out their crazy set from Reading Festival last year
8. Charli XCX
It feels like Charli XCX is just always waiting for that big break, constantly on the borders of the mainstream, she’s indie’s closest thing to a pop megastar, always independent and constantly redefining her sound, nothing says this more than self releasing her recent EP ‘Number 1 Angel’ and featuring on what may be the song of the summer Mura Masa’s ‘1 Night’. Her live show is as crazy as you would come to expect from her, make sure you find time to check her out.
In June alt-J will release their highly anticipated third album ‘Relaxer’ alongside some massive arena dates, from the early previews it sounds like this could well be their defining album and Sziget is set to be one of the few festivals you can catch the guys at, If they get the night time set that their show deserves then you’ll also be in store for one hell of a light show.
10. Biffy Clyro
A massive act for Sziget are the Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro, their used to playing hard rock festivals across Europe, recently headlining Reading, Leeds and Download, their going to rock the whole of Budapest to it’s core, their recent album ‘Ellipsis’ was a return to form andtheir live show takes everything to another level, if you like rock music then you can’t afford to miss these guys.
